President (as of the upload date of this page) Andy Heins of the National Waco Club sent the images at right. Andy  runs the day to day business of the Club, and we should all thank him for the effort he expended to help us understand better the Waco aircraft that landed and were signed in our Registers way back when.

WACO INF NC637Y

Waco INF NC637Y (S/N 3372) was manufactured April 16, 1931 by the Waco Aircraft Company, Troy, OH. It appeared four times in the Register of the Grand Central Air Terminal (GCAT). For all these visits the tower Operator left us with no information about the pilots or passengers, or locations of home bases or destinations. The landings were on May 15, 1931 at 4:45PM, May 18, 1931 at 3:39PM, July 13, 1931 at 9:03AM and July 15, 1931 at 3:24PM. Below, courtesy of Andy Heins (left sidebar) is a photograph of NC637Y.

A unique photograph is below. It shows three sister ships, NC619Y, NC625Y and NC637Y aloft in formation above scattered clouds. All were INF models and all were manufactured either April 15 or 16, 1931. It's probably safe to say they were all painted vermilion with silver wings and horizontal stabilizers.

Below are the Manufacturing Specifications for NC637Y at the time of manufacture, April 16, 1931. Other than color, and the engine and propeller brands, there is little other useful information.

Below is information regarding the chain of custody for the airplane from 1931 to, roughly, 1944. Note that from the Troy Flying Service warehouse the airplane was first registered to the Mercury Flying Club in Burbank, CA on March 2, 1932. This date was well-after the airplane last landed at GCAT (see above). It did not remain long with Mercury, because in September, 1932 it moved on to Floyd R. Martin in Santa Ana, CA. Relatedly (pun intended), Floyd Martin was the brother of Register pilots Eddie and Johnny Martin. The three brothers founded their own airfield at Santa Ana in 1923. Details are at Eddie Martin's link.

NC637Y also appeared once in the Register of the Davis-Monthan Airfield, Tucson, AZ, Saturday, September 24, 1932.
